The moissanite advantage

Charles & Colvard moissanite is lab-grown and held to the highest of environmental and ethical standards. In addition to being conflict-free and socially responsible, the gems are also non-transparent.
This ability to refract light makes their brilliance comparable to diamonds, as does their 9.25 rating on the Mohs Scale, which determines a gemstone’s hardness and durability. As if all of those benefits weren’t enough, moissanite gems are also considerably more affordable than traditional diamonds.

History of Moissanite

Moissanite stones date back to the late 19th century. First discovered in 1983 by French scientist Henri Moissan (hence the name Moissanite), moissanite was the byproduct of a meteorite that crashed into the Arizona desert approximately 50 years ago.
After exhaustive research, Moissan later concluded moissanite was comprised of silicon carbide. Due to the extreme rarity of natural moissanite, the moissanite stones you see today are lab-created, yet they continue to retain their allure over a century later and are immensely popular as a beautiful environmentally-friendly alternative to diamonds.
